Dear Friend,

As you may know, my mother, Ruth, spent her childhood in China as the daughter of a missionary doctor. I grew up hearing stories of her time there, and she never lost her passion to bring the love of Jesus to the people of Asia. It is a blessing that we have been able to help do that through the work of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and Samaritan’s Purse.

Over the past two years, both BGEA and Samaritan’s Purse have made great strides in reaching the people of Asia with the Gospel message.  In 2007, I had the blessing of sharing the Good News of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ with more than 400,000 people in Hong Kong—a record turnout for a BGEA Festival. Less than six months later, Samaritan’s  Purse filled a cargo jet with 90 tons of emergency relief supplies to show God’s love to those suffering after the devastating earthquake in Sichuan, China.

Since that time, Samaritan’s Purse has established an affiliate office in Hong Kong to help Christians in the region share God’s love with their neighbors. With the generous support of Asian believers and others around the world, we have continued our emergency relief efforts in China, including helping to rebuild a medical clinic near Chongqing and providing school supplies and other necessities to boys and girls living in orphanages.

Our Operation Christmas Child (OCC) project has been an integral part of our efforts to bring hope and help to the region. This ministry gives Christians the opportunity to pack shoe boxes with small gifts such as stuffed toys, socks, and school supplies to send to children in need. In April, we airlifted 105 tons of shoe box gifts to 65,000 young earthquake victims in the worst-hit areas of Sichuan province. Chinese officials who met the plane upon landing expressed their gratitude to Samaritan’s Purse for our work, and we praise the Lord for opening this door to share the compassion of Christ with the people there.
