Mongolian Family Meets the Great Physician
The parents of two-year-old Bilguun lived in constant fear that they would lose their son. The boy had a heart defect that kept him from leading a normal, active life. Even worse, because there was no healthcare facility with the equipment and expertise in Mongolia to repair his failing heart, Bilguun seemed doomed to die at an early age.
Looking for some way to help their child, his parents brought him to the capital, Ulaan Bataar, for cardiac screening provided by the Children’s Heart Project. Not long after, our medical team journeyed from the United States to Mongolia to deliver the good news to Bilguun and other sick children that they were accepted for surgery in North America. After traveling across the vast Gobi Desert, they arrived in Bilguun’s small village, Durgun, where they met the little boy. When they saw his blue-tinged skin, it was immediately obvious that this child had a serious heart condition.
Bilguun traveled to the United States with his mother, where he received the treatment he needed. More importantly, he and his mother lived with a caring Christian host family who shared the Gospel with them. Today, the entire family has accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. They also witnessed to their neighbors, and the staunchly Buddhist community now has a church with 50 members.
Bilguun’s mother is no longer afraid of losing her precious child. She has an active little boy and the hope of Christ. “Thank you for all you did for us and for saving my child’s life through God’s love,” she said.
Pointing to Jesus Christ
During their stay in North America, the children live in the homes of Christian families and receive counseling and support from local churches. As these host families and churches care for the children and parents, they experience God’s love in a tangible way, and many have come to faith in Jesus Christ.
We have helped hundreds of children, but there are many more hearts aching for God’s love and healing. At any given moment, we have a list of about 150 children waiting for life-saving treatment.
While medical care is central to the project, it is not our ultimate purpose. We help heal hearts physically so we can point the way to the Great Physician who can heal entire lives for eternity.
