Community Development in Myanmar
Samaritan's Purse Hong Kong

Samaritan's Purse began working in Myanmar in May 2008, providing emergency relief in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. Our programs primarily focus on rural communities in the hard-hit Ayeyarwady Delta region.

Pond Rehabilitation

Village ponds, used for drinking water, were contaminated by the cyclone. The pond team cleaned the ponds and then built fences around them to protect from further contamination from animals and humans.

School Construction

Samaritan's Purse is building one high school, one middle school, and one primary school in three villages. The schools were destroyed in the cyclone.

Fishing Boat Construction and Net Distribution

This project provides livelihood restoration to communities who lost their boats and fishing gear during Cyclone Nargis. We have helped more than 9,700 fishermen.

World Feeding Program

Samaritan's Purse is coordinating the delivery and distribution of food rations for 15,500 people.

Emergency Rice Distribution

Our teams have distributed 490 tons of rice, benefiting 68,596 people.

Water Purification Units

We have provided cleaning drinking water to 36,000 people through the installation of 12 water units. Maintenance training was also provided.

Medical Clinic Construction

We restored a damaged medical clinic in Pyapon Ta Man.
