Answered Prayer
Samaritan's Purse Hong Kong

Filtration units provided by Samaritan's Purse supplied safe drinking water in flooded areas like the village of Babahoyo.

A man's prayers are answered when Samaritan's Purse provides safe drinking water for a flood-ravaged community

Lionel asked God for a miracle. His village had been inundated by the worst flooding in Ecuador in a quarter-century, and desperately needed clean water. Though it seemed impossible, he prayed that the Lord would find a way to provide this precious resource for his family and neighbors.

Earlier this year, torrential rains flooded the small South American country, leaving more than 10,000 people homeless. Lionel's remote community, Babahoyo, was one of the hardest hit, leaving the already impoverished village in desperate need of basic necessities. Babahoyo had become an island, cut off by two flooded rivers, and residents like Lionel found themselves isolated and without access to emergency assistance.

As the situation in Ecuador began to deteriorate, Samaritan's Purse immediately dispatched a team to provide emergency relief to the suffering people. Working hand-in-hand with local believers, we provided medical care, food, and other vital supplies to some of the most remote communities along flooded rivers. We also distributed several water filtration units capable of transforming 10,000 gallons of filthy floodwater into safe drinking water each day.

A few weeks after Lionel went to God with his request, our team reached Babahoyo. He was fishing on the river bank when our workers arrived and asked him if there was a place to set up a water filtration unit in his area.

When Lionel heard these words, he was overjoyed. Here was the answer to his prayers. He went to his church and asked if the leadership could help find a safe place to set up the equipment. He and his wife also received training on operating and maintaining the filter, which now provides healthy drinking water for the community.

“God has been faithful to answer the prayers of His children”, Lionel's wife said with tears in her eyes.
